05 Oct SolvIt Cares Shines on Do Something Nice Day!(Last Updated On: September 27, 2018)
As we all know, “it is better to give, than receive” and our team is feeling pretty good. In honor of National Do Something Nice Day, we wanted to share the achievements and activities of the SolvIt Cares program.
Community involvement remains a priority of the SolvIt mission to improve lives and the environment one home at a time. For example, through giving, we can achieve more by working together to achieve a happy life.
“We are constituted so that simple acts of kindness, such as giving to charity or expressing gratitude, have a positive effect on our long-term moods. The key to the happy life, it seems, is the good life: a life with sustained relationships, challenging work, and connections to community.”
SolvIt Cares Gets Involved with Breast Cancer Awareness
This October, Solvit Home Services is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.
There is good news. Early detection and treatment enables most women to survive breast cancer.
- If you are a woman age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them.
- If you are a woman age 50 to 74, be sure to get a mammogram every 2 years. You may also choose to get them more often.
Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms.
Fortunately, many of us are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The annual campaign aims to increase awareness of the disease. To learn more, the National Breast Cancer Foundation offers a few ways to get involved and help women in need:
- Download our free breast health guide above
- Share your story about how breast cancer affected you or a loved one
- Host an in-person or virtual fundraiser
- Make a one-time or ongoing donation
Awareness is important to promote early detection, education and support services. For example, watch Sandra’s story. Hear how she received help through the difficult journey of a breast cancer diagnosis.
For the month of October we have purchased PINK floor savers for all to wear this month.
SolvIt Cares Gets Involved in the Community
SolvIt works with families to improve home performance. We work with our neighbors and engage in the local community. As a result, we encourage employees to devote time to local causes that improve their neighborhoods.
One example is Rebuilding Together NB, which brings volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income New Britain homeowners.
As part of the national Rebuilding Together organization, this community builder assists families in New Britain. Rebuilding Together NB assists low income homeowners, specifically the elderly, disabled, and families raising children, with repair and maintenance work that they can’t physically and/or financially take care of on their own.
Rebuilding Together NB delivers the majority of our services through volunteers. For example, a recent family lived in their home since 1985, which fell into severe disrepair. The family, which recently had a son pass away, relied on Rebuilding Together NB to repair a bathroom floor. As a result, their home is now safe and the family can continue to live within their comfortable New Britain neighborhood.

SolvIt is committed to making our local communities a better place and to help support those in need. SolvIt donates up to $1,000 per month to nonprofit organizations, various clubs, youth sports and other groups who help make a positive difference in their local communities.
Over the years, our team remains committed to #SolvItCares. From the Ice Bucket Challenge to social media campaigns to promote the Wounded Warriors Foundation and supporting local charities, such as the Southbury Woman’s Club, through #SolvItCares, we aim to make a difference.
At SolvIt, we are a locally owned and operated business. Our technicians and installers live and work in the communities we serve, so the entire SolvIt family treats our customers like neighbors and #SolvItCares reflects our commitment to our neighborhoods!
